Telmont and Rémy Cointreau Join Forces for Sustainable Winemaking: The New "Telmont" Champagne Launches First in Japan, Ahead of the World

Telmont, a house that has been crafting Champagne for a century, has joined hands with the Rémy Cointreau Group to give birth to the new Telmont. Centered on the concept of "quality over quantity," and with an unwavering commitment to sustainability, the reborn Champagne was launched first in Japan on July 1, 2021, ahead of its global release.

"In the Name of Mother Earth" Guides All Our Actions

Maison Telmont was founded in 1912 in Damery, near Épernay in the Champagne region, by Henri Robinet, a grape grower and wine producer. The maison, passed down through four generations for over a century, has now partnered with the Rémy Cointreau Group to take a step forward in achieving a "revolution in sustainable wine."
Telmont aims to protect the environment for future generations while cherishing respect for nature (terroir) through its steadfast initiatives. The maison has focused on organic farming in recent years, pursuing its strong vision and excellent quality.
While organic certification is said to cover only about 3% of vineyards in the Champagne region, Telmont has achieved organic certification for 72% of its approximately 24.5 hectares of vineyards as of 2017, with a goal to reach 100% by 2025.
Concurrently, five objectives have been set: "Preservation of terroir and biodiversity," "Promotion of eco-design" by using recycled bottles and eliminating outer packaging and gift wrapping, "Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions," "Review of logistics systems" such as not using aircraft for transport, and "Commitment to transparency and traceability."
Notably, under the "Commitment to transparency and traceability" objective, detailed information such as the variety and proportion of grapes used, vintage, production method, and ideal serving temperature is clearly indicated on the label. Emphasizing the individuality brought by the unique harvest each year, each bottle is marked with a serial number, enabling a system to track everything from the contents of the bottle to its production.
These Champagnes are crafted with deep respect and affection for the terroir. In Japan, four varieties are available: the flagship multi-vintage "Réserve Brut," the full-bodied and elegantly present "Réserve Rosé," "Réserve de la Terre" which, named after the earth (LA TERRE), embodies Telmont's philosophy by reflecting the rich bounty of the land, and the special prestige cuvée "Blanc de Blancs Millésime" made from 100% Chardonnay aged for 15 years in the cellar.
All of these Champagnes share characteristics of crisp purity, fine bubbles, a subtle acidity, and a balanced, long finish, offering a paradox of being full-bodied yet light, graceful yet elegant.
The new Telmont's challenge, guided by "In the Name of Mother Earth" in all its activities and with an uncompromising commitment to sustainability. We eagerly anticipate savoring the fruits of the maison's endeavors that lead to the future.
