Ethiopia: Sweet, Ripe Fruit Notes and Vibrant Floral Aromas

The Master Origins series is based on the concept of "single origin," using coffee beans from a single country of origin. Artisans worldwide then apply unique local processing methods to create these distinctive, rich flavors. New additions have now joined this celebrated series.
For Vertuo, Nespresso's new brewing system that arrived in Japan in January 2020 and allows for rich, crema-topped coffee in mug sizes, "Ethiopia" and "Costa Rica" have been introduced as new permanent additions to the lineup.
"Ethiopia" is cultivated by producers who have dedicated years to perfecting the dry process, involving drying the coffee cherries for several weeks. It is characterized by its sweet, ripe fruit-like flavor and vibrant floral aroma. "Costa Rica" uses a meticulous process where a small amount of carefully selected Arabica beans are washed in mineral-rich hot spring water, resulting in a balanced, sweet, malt-like taste.
Chef Hamada Noriyuki of Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Tokyo, who is a personal fan of Nespresso coffee, commented, "I found that the Vertuo coffee's crema, with its fine bubbles, enhances the coffee's aroma. For example, in cooking, when I want a strong-smelling ingredient to have a subtle, delicate fragrance, I sometimes turn it into a foam. Similarly, the Vertuo's crema traps the aroma while allowing for a gentle, ephemeral release of scent. The "Ethiopia" in particular, despite being a light-medium roast, had a rich body and a delightful fruity aroma."
The limited-edition "Aged Sumatra" for Original capsules utilizes Indonesia's traditional "Giling Basah" wet-hulling process. The coffee beans are aged in jute sacks for three years, developing a spicy aroma reminiscent of wood and cocoa.
Simultaneously, Nespresso is releasing limited-edition colors for its smallest and lightest Original coffee maker, the "Essenza Mini," in matte black, as well as limited-edition pink "Origin Espresso Cups" and "Origin Coffee Mug Cups."
