Organic Coffee Grown in Volcanic Soil

The "Reviving Origins Program" was launched out of Nespresso's desire to invest in the land and its people, as well as to address local needs. The newly released "Kahawa Ya Congo," Nespresso's first organic coffee, is made from organic coffee beans born from this program.
The Democratic Republic of Congo, once one of the world's premier coffee-producing regions, saw its coffee production decline to about one-tenth of its former output starting in the early 2000s due to conflict and political instability. The region along the shores of Lake Kivu in Eastern Congo, with its abundant rainfall and volcanic soil, was an ideal terroir for Arabica coffee, but it had been neglected for a long time.
In response, Nespresso announced in August 2020 its commitment to a long-term initiative to revitalize the coffee industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Concurrently, to support the lives of the people and coffee farmers in South Kivu province, Nespresso invested one million Swiss francs and partnered with the non-profit organization "Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI)" to establish systems for safe water supply and healthcare for approximately 80,000 people.
Through these efforts, "Kahawa Ya Congo" was created – an organically certified coffee cultivated in the rich volcanic soil along the shores of Lake Kivu.
This coffee, characterized by its toasted cereal aroma, nutty notes, and a mild fruity sweetness with a smooth finish, will be available in limited quantities for both Original and Vertuo machines.
We invite you to savor the exquisite taste of coffee brought forth by this fertile land.
