Nyetimber

Using only grapes from our own vineyards, also known as “Perfectly British”

Nyetimber, a specialist producer of premium English sparkling wine served in distinguished restaurants across 20 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, has its production base in West Sussex, southern England. It is the first brand to produce sparkling wine in the UK using the three grape varieties grown domestically: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.

Deciphering the disclosed information, contemplating the production process

The history of Nyetimber's founding dates back to 1086, and after passing through the hands of royalty and nobility, grape cultivation for wine production began in earnest in 1988, nearly 900 years later. In 2006, the current owner, Eric Heerema, acquired the company, and the following year, 2007, winemaker couple Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix joined Nyetimber. Their pursuit has been to create the world's finest sparkling wine on English soil, using only grapes from their meticulously cultivated vineyards.
Winemaker Cherie Spriggs (pictured right) has served as head winemaker since 2007, elevating Nyetimber's status in just over a decade to a level comparable to renowned Champagne houses. Born in Canada, Cherie earned a master's degree from the Wine Research Centre in Vancouver and then studied oenology at the University of Adelaide in Australia, obtaining her oenologist qualification. After graduating, she honed her skills under world-respected winemakers in Australia, New Zealand, and the finest wine regions of the United States.

Although she received many offers from wineries in Canada, a chance encounter with a bottle of Nyetimber brought back by her British father as a gift led her, along with her husband Brad Greatrix, to decide to join Nyetimber. In 2013, she scored 90 points in "The Encyclopaedia of Champagne and Sparkling Wine" by the authoritative Champagne critic Tom Stevenson, becoming known as a world-class winemaker.
Furthermore, in 2018, she achieved the remarkable feat of winning "Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year" at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) held annually in London, not only becoming the first woman to do so but also the first producer from outside the Champagne region.
Nyetimber is now undertaking a new initiative to ensure transparency for each bottle, disclosing information on the blend percentages by grape variety and vintage, as well as the dates of bottling, riddling, and disgorgement for all its wines. Purchasers can search for individual wine information by entering the numbers on the back label of the bottle on the website (Nyetimber.com).
Crafted by winemakers of exceptional expertise, Nyetimber, under the philosophy of “Perfectly British,” is cherished by discerning individuals worldwide seeking the finest lifestyle, as a premium English sparkling wine, and has garnered widespread acclaim and numerous accolades within the wine industry.
