CODORNIU

EDITOR’S EYE
Light and pale, it effervesces to quench a parched throat.
Smooth on the palate with restrained acidity. It pairs well with soy-sauce based dishes and is perfect for home cooking.
Reduced pesticides and fertilizers. This is a product committed to sustainable cultivation.
However, do not expect a sense of aged complexity. Instead, you can freely enjoy the fine, delicate mouthfeel characteristic of sparkling wine.

Codorníu's sparkling wine "Barcelona 1872," from Spain's Royal Warrant Winery, has been renewed. Having obtained organic certification, it is newly released as "Barcelona 1872 Organic."

Sustainability Project Started About 20 Years Ago

Founded in 1551 and known for creating cava in 1872, Codorníu is also recognized as the top cava winery in Spain, appointed as a Royal Warrant Winery in 1897.
As part of its commitment to sustainable farming, Codorníu launched its "Sustainability Project" about 20 years ago. Since then, they have reduced pesticides, fertilizers, and water usage by approximately 15%, implementing environmentally friendly grape cultivation practices.
Furthermore, for the past decade, they have focused on organic farming to express the inherent value of the land. Today, all vineyards where "Barcelona 1872" is produced are certified by the Catalan Council of Organic Production (CCPAE).
Its taste is characterized by the fine, creamy bubbles and rich fruitiness born from the traditional second fermentation in the bottle, the same method used for Champagne. Beyond this, Codorníu implements various initiatives, such as reducing bottle weight to lessen CO2 emissions from transportation, while paying attention to the natural ecosystem where the grapes are cultivated. This ethical cava, still cherished by the Spanish Royal Family, adds color to our dining tables.
