Mortlach is the first distillery established in 1823 in Dufftown, the heart of Speyside, Scotland's premier single malt region. It is produced through a unique distillation process described by critics as '2.81 distillations,' and its rich, powerful flavor has earned it the nickname 'The Beast of Dufftown.'
For the past few decades, it has been used to add complexity to blends like 'Johnnie Walker,' with only very small quantities bottled and highly regarded by whisky connoisseurs. Now, it makes its comeback as an 'ultra-premium single malt.'
Four products – 'Rare Old,' 'Special Strength (duty-free exclusive),' '18 Year Old,' and '25 Year Old' – will be released at duty-free shops in Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific countries. In Japan, three types will be available: 'Rare Old,' '18 Year Old,' and '25 Year Old.'
The packaging features a luxurious decanter bottle reminiscent of the Victorian era, as an homage to the Cowie family, who made significant contributions to Mortlach's development. In line with the 43.4% ABV at which Mortlach was bottled for export to the US market in 1949, all new products released this time will be bottled at this special alcohol content, expressing respect for the Mortlach of the past and the pioneers who created it.
