“Goût de France,” a festival of gastronomy held worldwide on March 19th (Thursday), was proposed by chef Alain Ducasse and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.

This “Goût de France” is inspired by the “Epicurean Dinners” (an event where the same menu is enjoyed worldwide on the same day) conceived by Auguste Escoffier, a culinary pioneer often called the father of French cuisine, in 1912. The name cleverly combines “Goût de France” (Taste of France) with “Good France” (implying quality French cuisine).

Over 1,300 restaurants worldwide are participating in this inaugural event. Esteemed chefs such as Paul Bocuse (France), Raymond Blanc (UK), Thomas Keller (USA), Joël Robuchon (France), Nadia Santini (Italy), and Guy Savoy (France), alongside Japanese chef Kiyomi Mikuni, are presenting innovative French cuisine for the modern era, while freely incorporating the traditions and cultures of their own countries.

In Japan, 61 restaurants nationwide, from bistros to high-end establishments, have embraced the philosophy of “Goût de France” and prepared special menus for the occasion. The full-course French meal, starting with an aperitif and progressing through appetizers, fish, meat, cheese, dessert, and digestifs, will feature dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally.

Information on participating restaurants worldwide can be found on the official “Goût de France” website (available in French and English). A list of participating restaurants in Japan is also available on the Japan National Tourism Organization's official website.

It promises to be a historic day, sharing a special moment with fellow gourmands around the globe and experiencing French culture through its cuisine.
