Where New York's Gastronomy Meets Osaka's Culinary Traditions

The Waldorf Astoria, a world-leading luxury hotel brand, began in New York in 1893 and has since been a favorite among celebrities, expanding to cities worldwide. It is particularly renowned for its culinary innovations, having created dishes still beloved globally today, such as the Waldorf Salad, Eggs Benedict, Red Velvet Cake, and the Rob Roy cocktail.
In April 2025, the brand made its Japanese debut with the opening of Waldorf Astoria Osaka. The hotel, comprising 252 rooms designed by André Fu, a globally acclaimed designer based in Hong Kong, houses four distinct venues: the Peacock Alley lounge and bar, the Peacock Alley bar, the modern French restaurant Jolie Brasserie, and the Japanese restaurant Tsukimi.
Peacock Alley, the brand's signature lounge and bar, is a traditional space that has long served as a hub for social and cultural gatherings in various cities around the world. The Osaka iteration, with 128 seats, offers a serene ambiance that honors New York's heritage while incorporating Japanese aesthetics.
By day, it offers exquisite pastries from skilled patissiers and refined lunches, transitioning to a special afternoon tea in the afternoon, featuring delicate sweets and savory bites. The menu boasts visually stunning creations, including a lobster roll encased in fragrant brioche, Oscietra caviar atop a black sesame macaron, red velvet cheesecake, and a mango-lychee gateau.
Here, one can indulge in an elegant interlude accompanied by champagne or Peacock Alley's original blend tea.
As dusk settles, the space transforms into a sophisticated setting with artistic cocktails, serving as a sophisticated adult social venue where tradition and modernity harmoniously converge.
Kens & Tails, an elegant bar with 47 seats, recreates the glamorous atmosphere of the "Jazz Age" of the 1920s. Talented young mixologists offer a memorable evening experience by adding contemporary interpretations to classic cocktails.
Notably, the opening features a commemorative cocktail menu inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Tales of the Jazz Age." Each of the eleven short stories is uniquely represented as a cocktail, offering an innovative approach to experiencing literature through drink, blending sophistication, playfulness, luxury, and allure.
Guests can also enjoy a selection of cocktails from the Waldorf Astoria Bar Book, making it a prime destination for cocktail enthusiasts. The bar's commitment to exceptional mixology is further highlighted by its collaborations with members of "The World's 50 Best Bars."
Jolie Brasserie, a 132-seat restaurant open all day from breakfast to dinner, merges refined French cuisine with Osaka's vibrant spirit. Inspired by the journey of a French woman traveling between France and Japan, it offers classic and authentic French dishes.
The menu subtly incorporates Japanese sensibilities, featuring diverse dishes made with the finest seasonal local ingredients, such as confit of Nanatani duck from Kyoto and steak frites with Kumamoto Akaushi beef. These dishes harmonize French and Japanese culinary cultures, further enhanced by pairings with carefully selected wines.
At the heart of this culinary experience is the Molteni live kitchen, a testament to French craftsmanship. Designed for guests to observe the chefs' precise and artistic preparation, it adds a dynamic element to the dining space, transforming it into a "culinary theater" where food and human interaction beautifully intertwine.
Tsukimi, the signature Japanese restaurant with 61 seats, pursues the essence of Japanese cuisine. Named after the traditional "moon-viewing" custom, it offers minimalist yet profound Japanese dishes in a serene space that celebrates natural materials.
At the counter seats facing large windows, guests can witness the delicate yet powerful skills of sushi chefs up close. The chefs craft exquisite sushi, a feast for the senses, using their discerning eye for the finest ingredients and their refined techniques and intuition – a true art form.
The teppanyaki counter features Tajima beef, aged for over 35 months, prepared with meticulous techniques including low-temperature cooking and charcoal grilling. The omakase-style courses, highlighting the finest seasonal ingredients, offer a progression of dishes showcasing the chef's creativity.
The courses are complemented by carefully selected wine and sake pairings, along with rare teas brewed using traditional tea ceremony methods and original cocktails incorporating Japanese ingredients. Private dining rooms are available for a more exclusive dinner experience.
The unique world of each restaurant is essential for a seamless and immersive dining experience, complete with memorable design elements. Attention is drawn to how the Waldorf Astoria Osaka's 130-year tradition will influence the culinary landscape of Kansai and Japan.
