"Veuve Clicquot in the Snow" Held in Niseko's Ski Resort
What is the most international town in Japan right now? Arguably, it’s Niseko in Hokkaido, not Tokyo or Osaka. A remarkable 80 to 90 percent of visitors come from overseas. The stylish architecture and foreign-language signs in the town center evoke a sense of being in an overseas resort. Amidst this international scene, a new event has landed in Japan: "Veuve Clicquot "In The Snow"", presented by the venerable Champagne house Veuve Clicquot, founded in Reims, France, in 1772. This seasonal activity proposes a comfortably exciting winter style, infused with the spirit of Veuve Clicquot.

An Elegant Winter with Champagne
As part of Veuve Clicquot's seasonal activities designed to add a bold splash of color to life, "Veuve Clicquot “In the Snow”" has previously graced ski resorts in America, Italy, and New Zealand. This year, the event makes its Japanese debut in Niseko, Hokkaido, a globally popular international ski resort. From Friday, March 1st to Sunday, March 10th, 2019, a series of events unfolded across Niseko's cafes, lounges, restaurants, and nightclubs, offering a taste of Veuve Clicquot's signature luxurious and exciting winter style.
The theme was "HYGGE," a Danish word signifying warm hospitality. The spaces were perfect for enjoying a relaxing holiday, engaging in conversation with loved ones and friends.
A must-visit is the pop-up lounge at "Restaurant & Cafe Tanta・an," located at the base of the gondola in the heart of Grand Hirafu, renowned for its majestic scale. Throughout the event, the terrace and interior were adorned in signature Clicquot yellow. Guests could enjoy Veuve Clicquot's flagship "Yellow Label," as well as "Rosé Label" and "Rich," by the glass or bottle, alongside special set menus. A special Veuve Clicquot gondola wrap also made an appearance. Toasting in the lounge, with its stunning views of snow-covered Mt. Yotei, promised to be an unforgettable experience.
Another highly recommended spot is "Asperges Hanazono," a restaurant located about a 15-minute drive from the town center. Stepping into its spacious interior, with the warm glow of a fireplace, immediately immerses you in the unique, extraordinary atmosphere of a resort. During the event, the restaurant was adorned with special resort decorations exuding Veuve Clicquot's elegance. Guests could savor French gastronomy, curated by Michelin 3-star chef Hiroshi Nakamichi and prepared by Michelin-starred chef Chitose Kato, paired with Veuve Clicquot by the glass for both lunch and dinner.
For dinner, an exquisite experience awaited, beginning with plump, fresh oysters as an amuse-bouche, followed by the melt-in-your-mouth texture of botan shrimp, the enticing smoky aroma of cured herring, a rich salad, succulent abalone steak that unfolded its delicate flavors with each bite, incredibly tender Hokkaido beef fillet grilled over the fireplace, and a surprisingly crisp mille-feuille for dessert. The ingredients were, of course, primarily sourced from Hokkaido. Each dish was a delightful surprise, not only in its exquisite taste but also in its presentation.
After dinner, consider heading to a nightclub like "Powder Room Niseko." The privilege of enjoying Veuve Clicquot to your heart's content, from lunch through the night, is perhaps one of the greatest pleasures of a holiday.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a resort retreat. You already know the profound joy of savoring Champagne in a relaxing environment. This year, why not experience the unique pleasures of a winter resort, enveloped in a world of white, in Japan? And for those who couldn't make it this year, rest assured – the event is scheduled to return next year.
