A Day to Connect with Children Facing Rare Diseases

In Japan, Macaron Day coincides with the summer solstice, marking the true arrival of summer. This year, June 22nd (Monday) will be a day transformed into a carnival of colorful macarons.

The keyword for 2015 is "continuity." Macaron Day began at Pierre Hermé boutiques in France and marks its 10th anniversary this year. Pierre Hermé views Macaron Day as "a day to spark a commitment" to live each day with an awareness of children with rare diseases.

Akira Minagawa

This year, Akira Minagawa of minä perhonen will bring Macaron Day to a wider audience. During the campaign period, a gift set featuring macarons with a special box and floral imprint designed by Minagawa for Macaron Day will be available. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the "National Network for Support of Children with Rare Diseases" (NPO).

His brand, minä perhonen, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Guided by the concept of "Yoshi-Yoshi" (good for the maker, good for the buyer, good for the seller, good for society) that has supported the brand for two decades, Macaron Day aims to be an event where "everyone can feel joy"—the givers, the receivers, society, and especially the children with rare diseases and their families.
