PRINT & BUILD
The Current State of Design, Through the Words of Its Creators
Launched in 2021 by architect and writer Yoshihide Asako, "PRINT & BUILD" aims to create a space for printed matter and critique, embodying a DIY spirit of "print and build." The first release was the book "The Current State of Design: Contemporary Design Interviews" by design journalist Takahiro Tsuchida.
Text by Satsuki Wakabayashi
"The Current State of Design: Contemporary Design Interviews" is a collection of interviews with 100 designers from around the world active in fields such as interiors, furniture, and architecture.
The keyword is "contemporary design." Contemporary signifies not only the current era but also innovation, originality, and avant-garde qualities that are constantly being updated.
This volume carefully unravels how the words of leading designers in the field vividly update existing values and redefine the design demanded by our times.
The author, Takahiro Tsuchida, serialized "Redefining Design" in the monthly magazine 'Shoten Kenchiku' for 100 installments starting in 2011. This book compiles that content and is supplemented with additional text providing an overview of design since 2000. The publisher is PRINT & BUILD, an architectural design office and publishing house founded this year by architect and writer Yoshihide Asako.

The inaugural volume is "The Current State of Design: Contemporary Design Interviews." With its central theme of grasping "the current state of design" through the authentic words of visionary designers, this book is an essential read for anyone involved in design, from students to professionals.
