Artists Who Participated in Sapporo International Art Festival 2014 Gather

Held from July to September last year, the "Sapporo International Art Festival 2014" took place in Sapporo, Hokkaido, under the theme of "Urban and Nature" championed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The festival was structured with a fresh perspective and innovative ideas, utilizing Sapporo's natural landscapes, cityscapes, parks, historical buildings, underground pedestrian spaces, and museums as exhibition venues. Focusing on Sapporo's history, climate, infrastructure, industry, and lifestyle, including its food culture, the festival transformed the "region" into an exhibition space.

Various programs were presented, centering on contemporary art, but also encompassing music, performing arts, and media art. Through art, the festival reflected on Sapporo's urban and environmental issues, as well as its past, posing questions about the coexistence of urban life and nature.

Now, to commemorate the publication of the book "The Form of a City Where People and Nature Resonate: Sapporo International Art Festival 2014 Document," which documents this art festival, a talk event will be held on Friday, February 6th. The guest speakers will be Naoya Hatakeyama, Yuko Mohri, and Takashi Fukazawa, artists who participated in the Sapporo International Art Festival, along with Shihoko Iida and Sachiko Shikuya, who served as associate curators. This promises to be a valuable opportunity to share not only episodes from the festival period but also reflections on what the initiative achieved, future challenges, and feedback.
