Release Events Held in Tokyo and Hamamatsu
Tokyo Spice Boys was formed in 2008 and comprises Shankar Noguchi, Yoshimi Nile, Meta Baratz, and Jin-suke Mizuno. Initially, the members met once a month in Tokyo to research Indian cuisine. In 2010, they shifted their research base to India. Since then, they have traveled to India annually to pursue their activities, each year with a different theme.
Their themes are quite unique. One year, focusing on dairy products, they would go to milk buffaloes. For a Bengal cuisine theme, they might go fishing in the lower reaches of the Ganges River. Finally, on the last day, they would borrow a local kitchen to hold cooking sessions. The details of these journeys are published annually as "Chalo India" by Mizuno's independent label.
The members, who have Indian blood flowing through them or frequent India, recount numerous episodes filled with laughter and tears. Among them are intriguing stories such as "10 Ways to Enjoy Indian Cuisine More Deeply" and "A Glass of Water Worth Getting a Stomach Ache For." The book also includes enjoyable columns like "India Q&A," where the four members answer simple questions, and recommendations for restaurants in India.
Various events are planned in conjunction with the book's release. On February 17 (Tuesday), a talk event celebrating the publication will be held at Daikanyama T-Site. Attendees will hear about stories not included in the book, and delicious samples will be served. Furthermore, an event titled "Let's Meet in India" will take place on February 7 (Saturday) at Yajima-ya Hamamatsu Main Store in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Mizuno's hometown. The first 20 attendees will receive a homemade Indian bento box from Mizuno, making it an event not to be missed.
These are 88 love letters to India, penned only by the Tokyo Spice Boys. Reading this book will undoubtedly make us love India even more and inspire us to embark on a journey.
