Japan Edition Bonus: Fan Magazine 'KAZAK #5 - Corinne Day,' Overflowing with Love for Day

Corinne Day began her career as a photographer in the early 1990s. In an era when fashion photography typically portrayed glamorous and sexy female archetypes, she established a style of real documentary fashion photography that captured the unvarnished truth of her subjects.

Her first monograph since her passing in 2010, 'MAY THE CIRCLE REMAIN UNBROKEN,' is set for release in Japan on August 27th, her death anniversary. This meticulously crafted volume is the result of approximately three years of planning, brought to fruition by a collaboration between Day's husband, filmmaker Mark Szaszy, the owner of GIMPEL FILS GALLERY, Jackie Haliday, Aaron Morel of 'MOREL,' and Day's longtime friend and muse, Tara Hill.

The book's title is inspired by a song from Day's favorite band, 'The 13th Floor Elevators.' The typography was handled by Pablo Ferro, known for his title designs for 'A Clockwork Orange' and 'Dr. Strangelove.'

Compiled from the 2013 retrospective exhibition 'May The Circle Remain Unbroken' at the GIMPEL FILS GALLERY, this book features previously unpublished early works alongside a focus on her most influential period from 1987 to 1996. Many of these images are candid snapshots of her friends, taken in Day's London Soho flat, truly symbolizing the 'unbroken circle of friendship' as the title suggests.

The collection also includes essays by Charlotte Cotton, curator and head of photography at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and writer Glenn O'Brien, making it an essential volume for understanding Day's legacy.

Also noteworthy is the fan magazine 'KAZAK #5 - Corinne Day' (published in 2012), included as a special bonus with the Japan edition, which is filled with profound admiration for Day.
