Welcome to the world of tactile reading.
Digging up old photographs and publishing them. Did you know that a quiet movement is stirring in the photography world? This month, we’ve picked three books that capture memories of summer. We invite you to reflect on the summers they spent through these intimate photographs.

Days at "The Oak Tree Nest"

Dutch photographer Bertien van Manen’s "Easter and Oak Trees" documents her days at "den Eikenhorst," a summer retreat she frequented from the 1970s onward. The photographs capture her family enjoying the summer with innocence and vulnerability. While there’s nothing particularly special about this retreat, their joyful expressions seem to echo with laughter.

"Illegal" Photos Brought to Light

Nikolay Bakharev, born in Siberia in 1946, captured portraits of Siberian citizens in "Amateurs & Lovers" during the early 1970s, when the region was still under Soviet rule. Nudity was forbidden by law at the time, and any such photographs were taken covertly and traded on the black market. These "illegal" nude photos, never meant to be seen, are now brought to light after 30 years.

That Summer, Told in Sepia

Born in Ukraine in 1938, Boris Mikhailov began taking photographs as a hobby in 1965 while working as an engineer. "Crimean Snobbism" captures a summer spent on the Crimean coast about 30 years ago. People relax on the beach, play, or pose nude. In an era under Soviet rule, when freedom was restricted, they appear to revel in their liberty. Through these sepia-toned photographs, Mikhailov reveals a facet of Ukraine we never knew.
