BOOK | The 8th installment in a concept book series exploring cities worldwide

“URBAN RESEARCH: PARIS” is released

The eighth installment in the concept book series exploring cities worldwide, which Urban Research has been undertaking since 2008, “URBAN RESEARCH: PARIS,” is finally published. The theme is the “salon,” a uniquely French cultural phenomenon that began in the Middle Ages and has had a profound influence to this day. The book examines the contemporary form of the salon through the lens of various people, professions, and philosophies, including legendary bookstores that have existed for nearly a century, concept stores with a philanthropic spirit, silk weaving houses that adorned the Palace of Versailles, and world-renowned, eccentric musicians.

Why are we always drawn to Paris and think of Paris?

“Paris has a unique, sweet scent. The city is filled with beautiful color palettes, and its ambient sounds are like modern music. And people here are not afraid to have their ideas challenged. I feel I only realized how precious these things are after leaving Paris. I doubt Tokyo or New York have anything like the Parisian salon. A gathering that transforms intellect into action. What is needed in today's world, overflowing with information? Paris seems to gently tap me on the shoulder, asking just that.”Kahimi Karie (Musicienne)

Urban Research, known for its highly curated selection of shops, operates over 60 stores nationwide. The eighth installment of its concept book series, “URBAN RESEARCH: PARIS,” which spotlights a city in the world and explores its theme through artful photography and text, delves into the secrets that make Paris so unique. Emi Nekozawa was involved in the planning and editing, using “Salon” as the keyword to approach this multifaceted exploration.
