In March 2017, Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten presented his 100th show, encompassing both menswear and womenswear. To commemorate this milestone, a book serving as a retrospective of all his shows, from the first to the present, will be published this September.
His creations are highly acclaimed for their innovative use of exquisite fabrics, prints, embroidery, and colors, as well as his aesthetic sensibility. His creative process draws inspiration from various artistic fields, including art, film, music, and stage design.
This book is comprised of two volumes: one covering shows 1-50 and the other covering shows 51-100. It presents numerous memorable shows alongside previously unpublished photographs.
Featuring over 2,000 photographs, it captures everything from the runway and backstage to invitations, the chosen show venues, and the stage direction. The thoughts and inspirations behind each collection are captured and documented. The book delves into the designer's work and aesthetic approach.
Each show is accompanied by commentary from renowned journalists. Susannah Frankel for womenswear and Tim Blanks for menswear provide detailed insights into the inspiration, creation, background, and stories behind each collection.
Initially released in Belgium and the Netherlands starting September 2017, it will be available worldwide from October. A limited edition, featuring the two volumes housed in a special case, will also be launched simultaneously.
Regarding the publication, Dries Van Noten commented, "I like the idea that this book is a celebration of my past. Because from now on, I can focus solely on the future and my continued evolution as a designer. I had previously published a book to celebrate my 50th show, so releasing this one for the 100th felt like a natural progression. The 100th show is truly a 'celebration,' and I wanted to keep it in memory. The first volume contains shows 1 through 50, and the second volume contains shows 51 through 100, making them one cohesive work. Through the texts and photographs, we can recall and understand the stories and inspirations behind each show, not just the shows themselves but everything surrounding them. I am very pleased to have been able to bring together all the shows to date in this way."
