30 "Beautiful Books" Selected by Daikanyama Tsutaya Books Concierges

At the book floor on the first floor of Building 2 at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books, within Daikanyama T-SITE, which proposes an adult lifestyle, the "Daikanyama BOOK DESIGN Exhibition 2016" is being held for the second consecutive year. Under the concept that "excellent book design has the power to draw people in," the "Daikanyama BOOK DESIGN Exhibition 2016" showcases books that exude the charm unique to physical paper books, something difficult to experience with e-books. These include striking cover designs that make the book itself memorable, layouts with beautifully arranged typography and imagery, printing of astonishing quality, and unique construction ideas.




For this third iteration, Yohei Sanjo (Architecture & Design) and Harumi Shimizu (Art & Photography), concierges at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books, have selected 30 books that excel in book design from among domestic and international publications released in 2015, focusing on "printing, layout, binding, and construction." These well-designed books, crafted with meticulous attention to detail, reveal their qualities not just by looking, but by being held and opened. One can feel the creator's passion for the book through its weight and texture. Naturally, all the books are available for purchase. An original catalog featuring detailed data and commentary will also be available in a limited edition, so be sure to check that out as well.

Additionally, this year, a satellite exhibition, "2015 Best Books Chosen by Selectors," will be held concurrently. Five individuals involved in the book industry—a book designer, a publisher/bookshop owner, a bookshop manager, a distributor, a printing director, and an editor—will select their best books of 2015 from their respective perspectives.
