A New Attempt to Emerge the World Before and After the Pandemic in AI-Re-developed Photographs

Kensaku Kakimoto is a filmmaker and photographer who has worked on numerous visual projects as a director, filmmaker, and cinematographer, primarily in film, commercials, and music videos. His new exhibition, "TRANSFORMATION," will be held at Hillside Forum, Hillside Terrace, Daikanyama.
The new project "Time Tunnel," presented for the first time at this exhibition, consists of works re-developed by AI trained on thousands of photographs taken by Kakimoto before the COVID-19 pandemic, along with arbitrary text, historical information, and Kakimoto's own images and videos. This series was a collaborative remote production between Kakimoto and the Australian science art team Alt.vfx.
These works will present a new landscape to the viewer by bringing forth the footprints and changes of people before and after the COVID-19 pandemic within the tunnel of "time."

In addition to the above, the exhibition will also feature the new series "Trimming," which captures the ordinary world with a high-resolution, new perspective, and the latest works from the "TRANSLATOR" series, first presented in New York in 2017 following its Tokyo debut in 2016. In a statement for this exhibition, Kensaku Kakimoto said, "The world looked the same – the same scenery, the same time, the same light – but it has completely changed. How has the world we thought was perfect transformed? The meaning of photographs, once completed, has likely also changed. Through AI development, I have focused on the passage of time as the world transformed into imperfection, depicting the scenery I encountered. I have brought forth the present moment of changing landscapes, shaped by the absurdities within the rapidly shifting flow of time."
