A Journey Through Time with Shingo Abe's Video Art and We+'s Installation
Grand Seiko exhibited for the second time at Milan Design Week this year. "THE NATURE OF TIME" spatially expresses "the continuous flow of time and its permanence" as depicted by the sweeping second hand of Spring Drive.
The Tokyo exhibition, scaled up from the Milan presentation, has been reconfigured into a space where visitors can experience "a journey through the flow of time, guided by light." Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the video artwork "movement" by Shingo Abe, a CG director and designer. Light particles, seemingly shed from the sweeping second hand of Spring Drive, release viewers from the hustle and bustle of daily life, inviting them on a short journey to perceive the subtle shifts in the passage of time.
In "FLUX," the installation by the design studio "We+" founded by Toshiya Hayashi and Hokuto Ando, fluid ripples of light gently spread across a water surface against a dynamic visual backdrop, visualizing the ebb and flow of time, its transience, and time perception. This immerses the viewer in their own subjective experience of time.
Moving further, glass objects from "FLUX" are placed within a space wrapped in twisted washi paper. When picked up, they reveal light particles and internal components that intertwine, symbolically conveying the micro-cosmos of Spring Drive and signaling the end of the journey.
The venue also features an exhibition of representative Grand Seiko models. Talk events are also scheduled to be held during the exhibition period.
