20 Minutes Time Limit: Freestyle Battles in the Creative World

The Yokohama Landmark Tower (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, opened in 1993), developed by Mitsubishi Estate, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023. As Japan's first vertically integrated building with three functions—shopping mall, offices, and hotel—it has become one of Yokohama's iconic landmarks.
As the first event to express gratitude for its 30th anniversary and to provide an impetus to move forward towards an "exciting future," the art-focused "Digital Art Battle to Open the Future by LIMITS" was held. This two-day event featured the unveiling of a concept movie, exhibition viewing by artists described as "freestyle battles in the creative world," and digital art experiences.
In "Digital Art Battle to Open the Future by LIMITS," a total of six artists affiliated with LIMITS participated, holding a LIMITS art battle with Yokohama as the theme. A digital art battle is a one-on-one competition where the winner is decided based on "idea," "speed," "technique," and "process" within a 20-minute time limit for a randomly assigned theme.
In the battle held on the 16th, "Comic Illustration Master" YUKI LILY and "Meticulous Art Craftsman" AKI competed. The theme was "YOKOHAMA LANDMARK TOWER × Exciting Future Shopping."
YUKI LILY commented, "This is actually my first time in Yokohama," and depicted an enjoyable future shopping experience using signage. AKI, on the other hand, created a piece that emphasized a retro feel, featuring two women in traditional Japanese attire with the Yokohama Landmark Tower and Ferris wheel in the background, portraying it as a place that can be enjoyed in any era. AKI won by vote. After the art battle, a "Special Lottery" was held, offering a chance to win luxurious prizes such as a pair of accommodation tickets at the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel among the voters.
Additionally, a special collaboration was held where artists affiliated with LIMITS enhanced illustrations drawn by children at an art class, and a digital art workshop was offered for creating original characters with the theme of "future."
The Minatomirai area is planning to host numerous events and initiatives to celebrate its anniversary year. Why not consider visiting Yokohama during this occasion?
