Photographer Kazunari Tajima's solo exhibition "WITHERED FLOWERS BLACK" is on view at Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama until Saturday, February 26, 2022.

An Exhibition to Experience a Beautifully Ephemeral, Monochromatic World

It was recently announced that Kazunari Tajima, a photographer active at the forefront of fashion photography, held a solo exhibition "WITHERED FLOWERS" at Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama in 2020. The exhibition, which marked the first public display of his secret, ongoing series of photographs of wilting flowers, garnered significant attention.

The current solo exhibition, "WITHERED FLOWERS BLACK," is the second iteration, showcasing a collection of monochromatic photographs of wilting flowers.

Tajima remarks, "Many people assume that anything looks good in monochrome, but there are many subjects that appear more appealing in color. Flowers are one such example." He continues, "Monochromatic images only have gradations from white to black. It is a simple expression of light. This time, I meticulously adjusted the lighting to make the monochromatic images more compelling than color ones. Compared to color photographs of flowers, these works have become more photographic in expression, meaning they became works that express 'photographs' rather than 'flowers.'"

This exhibition allows visitors to experience Tajima's collection of works that express wilting flowers through monochromatic photography. It offers an opportunity to encounter a new world, distinct from color.

To coincide with the exhibition, a photobook of the same title will also be published. We invite you to immerse yourself in the works, both at the exhibition and in the book.
