This exhibition revives numerous historical Japanese artworks as ultra-high definition digital art, including Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," Utagawa Hiroshige's "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō," a dual exhibition of the two "Wind God and Thunder God Screens" by Sōtatsu Tawaraya and Kōrin Ogata, and Ito Jakuchu's representative work "Cockscombs and Chickens."

In a dynamic, immersive space created by multiple high-luminosity 4K projectors on a 45-meter wide, three-panel screen, the digital art faithfully reproduces the texture of each individual fiber of the original washi paper in ukiyo-e, and the meticulous differences in materials and techniques in gold folding screens and fusuma paintings. Over 40 works, including national treasures and important cultural properties, are featured in a double program with daily changes in the displayed pieces.
Within the venue, visitors can take photos with the grand masterpieces as a backdrop. Additionally, a commentary theater magnifies details of the artworks, offering explanations through narration and English subtitles to delve into their charm. Furthermore, the "Digital Hokusai x Hiroshige" corner showcases approximately 60 selected works from "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" and "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" on over ten large monitors. We invite you to enjoy a timeless art experience with dramatic presentations that blend grand visuals with music.
And in anticipation of the exhibition's opening, a series of artwork commentary videos is now available on the official YouTube channel.Artwork Commentary Video SeriesThese videos feature commentary from art historians specializing in Japanese art, such as Professor Emeritus Tadashi Kobayashi of Gakushuin University and director of the Okura Museum of Art, as well as insights from the exhibition's ambassador, Kabuki actor Matsuya Onoe, who shares the appeal of Japanese art as viewed through digital art.
Regarding the exhibition, Matsuya Onoe commented, "It's an experience like stepping inside the paintings. I can feel the artist's soul and thoughts in every color, every single hair, every line of armor within the artwork. It's unimaginable how they were created. The grandeur and impact are beyond what one can grasp from seeing them at their actual size." Watching the videos before visiting the venue will likely enhance the enjoyment of the artworks' worlds.
