First Solo Exhibition in Japan, 'Voyages', by coarse, Held at Diesel Art Gallery

The first solo exhibition in Japan by German artist unit coarse, titled 'Voyages', is being held from Friday, November 21st to Friday, February 13th, 2015, at the Diesel Art Gallery in Shibuya.

Fictional Narratives Centered on Sculpture and Deep Emotion

coarse is an artist unit comprised of Germans Mark Landwer and Sven Waschk. They began creating in 2003 and are currently based in Hamburg, Germany, and Hong Kong. Their unique worldview, which links sculptures made impressively from wood, synthetic resin, and vinyl with fictional narratives themed around the deep emotions of the real world, unfolds through their artwork.

In recent years, their collaborative work with Amnesty International won a Cannes Lion, one of the world's three major advertising awards. Furthermore, they achieved awards in three categories at 'Designer Toy Awards 2014', a festival of toy culture held this year, drawing significant attention.

This exhibition, coarse's first solo show in Japan, reveals a worldview that, contrary to their catchy sculptures, provocatively yet honestly captures the fading of friendship, the loss of innocence, and the undercurrents of revenge. Alongside works that draw viewers into their narratives, such as their signature art pieces and figure works, as well as photographic works, a special slideshow created exclusively for this exhibition will also be presented.

Additionally, a special limited-edition Japanese version of 'Omen', the iconic owl-shaped character from their representative series 'Souls Gone Mad', will be available for purchase. Furthermore, a signing session with coarse is scheduled to take place on the opening day, Friday, November 21st, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
