Simultaneous Exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris, and Munich
'IN SITU-1' is a joint exhibition across three Espace Louis Vuitton venues in Tokyo, Paris, and Munich, marking a first for the spaces. Three female artists, invited to each country, will undertake the entire process from production to exhibition in situ (on-site).
This exhibition was conceived based on Louis Vuitton's commitment to celebrating women active in creative fields. American artist Andrea Bowers was invited to Paris, Malaysian artist Shimrin Gill to Munich, and Korean artist Min-Jeong Seo was chosen for Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo. These artists are currently engaged in their work, employing a diverse range of expressive methods.
Min-Jeong Seo, known for her poetic expressions of concepts like time—encompassing moments, the past, and the future—as well as the ephemerality and uncertainty of life, has also begun her creation from a completely blank slate. Over approximately three months, influenced and inspired by her own evolving state of mind, the light-filled, glass-enclosed space of Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, the cityscape visible from within, and interactions with visitors, her creative process is now reaching its climax.
Within the venue, which serves as her 'atelier,' she is creating a highly symbolic installation that establishes a bold dialogue on the concept of 'creation and destruction' by using fragile materials like polyethylene and ceramics, then sculpting, breaking, or damaging them. This process is openly visible to visitors. Additionally, a special corner offers glimpses into the production scenes from Paris and Munich.
Min-Jeong Seo's work is nearing completion. We anticipate witnessing the final creation, a culmination of the stimulating interplay between the city of Tokyo, its visitors, and the artist's own state of mind. It is compelling to observe both the journey of its creation and the finished piece.
