Transporting You to a Transcendent, Fantastical World in an Instant

This installation is a re-imagining of "LIFE-WELL," originally presented by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani – known for his technologically driven visual installations and performances – at Noda Shrine in Yamaguchi City in 2013, commissioned by the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM). It has been adapted for the Park Hyatt Tokyo.

Sakamoto and Takatani, who value "water" as a material and have collaborated on numerous projects, have created an experience where water droplets, reaching the Peak Lounge & Bar, transform into incredibly fine mist that interacts with the outdoor air and clouds through the windows. Sakamoto commented on the installation: "In the familiar bamboo grove space on the 41st floor, mist gradually gathers, endlessly changing its form in response to subtle air currents. Electronic sounds, reminiscent of the笙 (shō) of Gagaku court music, instantly echo these changes, further accentuating the space's tranquility... It was from this imagined scenario that we decided to actually generate mist and let the sounds drift."

Water droplets, rising from a spring hidden in the basement, ascend the skyscraper to reach the 41st floor of Park Hyatt Tokyo. In response to an unseen sound, these droplets become a veil of mist, inviting visitors into a world of fantasy. We encourage you to experience this installation, where infinite mist and sound weave together in the sky.
