Parisian Women: From Schoolgirls to Madames, Their Charms Overflowing the Square Frame
Parisian women, embodying universal style and elegance, are symbols of "fashionable women." Baudouin, a freelance photographer born in Reims, France, in 1977, who has worked for French publications such as magazines "ELLE" and "WAD," became interested in the mysterious power of the term "Parisian woman" and began his "quest" for them in 2006.
He met and photographed approximately 250 Parisian women, each cherishing her own world. In 2010, he selected 75 of them, corresponding to the postal code "75" for Paris, and compiled them into a photobook titled "75 Parisiennes."
The exhibition features Parisian women from various walks of life, from shy schoolgirls to solitary mademoiselles and melancholic madames. Although all captured within the same square frame, each woman exudes a strong individuality, her charm overflowing the confines of the frame.
In addition to Institut Français Tokyo, this solo exhibition will be held at the restaurant "KEISUKE MATSUSHIMA" from September 18 (Thursday) to October 26 (Sunday), and at the Hasselblad Japan Gallery from October 2 (Thursday) to October 22 (Wednesday).
What is the allure of the "Parisian woman," so popular among Japanese women? Through the lens of Baudouin, who has captured countless fashion photographs, we can glimpse the true faces of Parisian women of various ages, professions, and lifestyles.
