Unseen Works to Be Displayed, Revealing Over 40 Years of "Time" Between Sukita and Bowie

Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1938, Masayoshi Sukita has been active on the front lines for over 50 years as one of Japan's leading photographers. In particular, he has gained global recognition for his ongoing photographs of international artists such as David Bowie, T.REX, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Kenji Sawada, and Kiyoshiro Imawano.

a

His photographs of David Bowie, the quintessential British rock musician, are famously known for the album covers of ""HEROES"" (1977) and TIN MACHINE (1989). Furthermore, the jacket photo for David Bowie's first new song in over a decade, "THE NEXT DAY," released last year, utilized the jacket photo from ""HEROES"" shot by Sukita, and the avant-garde music and artwork, undiminished even at 66 years old, garnered significant attention, a memory still fresh.

Additionally, Sukita's works of David Bowie were prominently featured in "David Bowie Is," an exhibition celebrating Bowie's achievements held last year at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK. The exhibition is scheduled to tour globally, with future stops in Berlin, Chicago, Paris, and Melbourne. Moreover, a documentary film about this exhibition, "David Bowie Is - The Documentary," is slated for release in Japan in early 2015.

The exhibition's spatial design is handled by internationally acclaimed art director Hideki Nakajima. By using acrylic materials, reminiscent of the German Becher school known for its monumental photographic works, the photographs of David Bowie by Masayoshi Sukita are presented in an entirely new form. Featuring previously unreleased works, the exhibition promises to be an engaging experience, showcasing cutting-edge rock photography that is increasingly recognized as art.

"TIME - David Bowie by Masayoshi Sukita" will feature talk shows with Masayoshi Sukita and special guests during the exhibition period, further revealing the untold "time" shared by Sukita and Bowie. We hope to experience the artworks born from their trust built over more than 40 years, and glimpse the true face of Bowie.
