ART | "IMPOSSIBLE" Pop-Up Shop Opens at Valveat81 in Aoyama

ART | Condensing 4.5 Years of IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT SPACE!

IMPOSSIBLE Pop-Up Shop Held at Valveat81

Following the discontinuation of Polaroid film, IMPOSSIBLE took on the challenge of developing analog instant film. In December 2010, IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT SPACE opened with a collection of precious works shot on its first-generation film by a dazzling lineup of Japanese photography's finest, including Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriyama, Yuria Nagashima, Jin Ohashi, and Masashi Sannai. A pop-up store, condensing the four and a half years from its opening to its closing, will be held at Aoyama's "valveat 81" starting September 6th (Saturday).

VOGUE FASHION'S NIGHT OUT: Opening Day Packed with Events

Since Polaroid Corporation decided to cease film production in 2008, IMPOSSIBLE has been manufacturing and distributing a completely new type of Polaroid camera format instant film from the former Polaroid factory in the Netherlands. In 2010, they launched IMPOSSIBLE TOKYO, initiating activities across Asia.

The "IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT SPACE" in Nakameguro, Tokyo, concluded its run this spring witha solo exhibition by Hajime Sawatari, and temporarily closed to pursue new endeavors.

Over its five-year span, the space hosted solo exhibitions by a diverse range of artists including Sakiko Nomura, Eiki Mori, David Sylvian, NIGO®, and A-chan, each presenting their unique worldview through instant film.

This pop-up store, launching concurrently with "VOGUE FASHION'S NIGHT OUT," will feature rare items such as limited edition posters and leaflets produced during past exhibitions.

Additionally, original gift cards featuring instant film works inspired by "flowers"—chosen for their symbolic meanings, making them ideal for heartfelt gifts—will be available. Prints of flowers photographed by artists closely associated with IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT SPACE will also be on display.

On Saturday, September 6th, the opening day of "VOGUE FASHION'S NIGHT OUT," from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM, a dedicated team will offer complimentary portraits taken with vintage Polaroid equipment to all who wish. Furthermore, a special studio for professional portrait photography, "SAKIKO NOMURA STUDIO," in collaboration with Sakiko Nomura, will be set up in the second-floor gallery space. Invitations to the photo session will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis during the same hours.
