Six Artists, Six Londons: Special Works Created for This Exhibition

With the rapid advancement of printing technology during the Industrial Revolution, Britain, home to numerous woodblock type foundries, is an indispensable nation when discussing letterpress. Today, London remains a hub for many letterpress artists who continue to present highly artistic works while upholding this tradition.

This exhibition focuses on six artists active in London. Each artist freely expresses the allure of letterpress through their works, showcasing the unique ink smudges from hand-printing, the warmth of human touch in imperfect forms, the power of typography, artistic alphabet arrangements, and carefully chosen, impactful words.

Furthermore, the participating artists were asked the common question, "What does London mean to you?" and each created a piece using the four colors found in the Union Jack—red, blue, white, plus black—which will be presented at this exhibition.

Participating artists include Ian Mortimer of "I.M. IMPRIMIT," a recipient of numerous printing-related awards, and Stephen Kenny of "A TWO PIPE PROBLEM LETTERPRESS," who created the main visual for this exhibition, alongside Graham Bignell of "NEW NORTH PRESS," Kelvin Lawrence Smith of "MR. SMITH'S LETTERPRESS," Phil Abel of "HAND & EYE LETTERPRESS," and Chrissie Charlton & Vicky Foullique of "HARRINGTON & SQUIRES." In addition to the exhibition and sale of artworks, original merchandise will also be available.
