Galleries, bookstores, and publishers leading the art photography world participate

Japan, a country that has produced many globally active photographers and boasts the world's largest museum attendance, is set to host an unprecedented photography event. To promote a life enriched by photography, 18 galleries, including Takasi Ishii Gallery and Yuka Tsuruno Gallery, along with 10 bookstores and publishers such as IMA and POST, have gathered under the auspices of the Japan Art Photography Association to plan this event.

The venue will feature exhibitions and sales of works by photographers championed by each gallery, alongside a rich program of events. A series of nine talks will be held throughout the fair, exploring the evolution of photography in Japan from the 1960s to the present day, featuring prominent Japanese photographers, emerging talents, curators, and researchers.

On Saturday, September 6th, a workshop will offer participants the chance to experience gelatin silver printing under the guidance of printers from Shashin Kobo, a company that has produced prints for renowned photographers like Nobuyoshi Araki and Daido Moriyama.

Additionally, the pop-up bookstore will showcase books from Steidl, a German publisher renowned since its founding in 1967 for its comprehensive in-house process from concept to printing and binding, captivating photography enthusiasts worldwide with its high-quality publications. Alongside Steidl, books from Mack, a UK publisher founded in 2010 by Michael Mack, who served as Steidl's Director of Photography Books for 20 years, will also be available, presenting works from two internationally acclaimed publishers.

In an era of visual communication, a life with photography has become ever more accessible. This celebration, bringing together works by photographers active in Japan, offers a glimpse into the depth of art photography and suggests new ways to enjoy it.
