A Narrative Woven Through Photographic Responses

Terri Weifenbach, who captures fantastical landscapes inspired by the nature around her, and Rinko Kawauchi, one of Japan's foremost photographers with international renown. These two female artists, who both owned each other's photo books, will present works born from a private exchange of photographs via email, which began in 2011.

The hallmark of their photographic correspondence is how each image responds to the other, creating a continuous dialogue. For instance, in response to Weifenbach's photograph of water surfaces, Kawauchi sends an image of dewdrops clinging to the tips of plants. Similarly, when Weifenbach shares a photo of grass, Kawauchi offers a picture of a child's fluffy hair. These reactions cascade, weaving a narrative.

The exhibition will also feature the release of the photo book "Gift," alongside original merchandise such as scarves and iPhone cases.

Like "Gift"—a present for someone living far away—these photographs act as a medium for various emotions, whether to share the changing seasons or as a memory of the moon seen together on a particular night. One is invited to drift into the warm, poetic world created by these two artists living in separate cities, Tokyo and Washington D.C.
