An Archive Unraveling Modern Italian Culture & History

Last October, Pirelli and Princeton University entered into a five-year partnership aimed at researching and promoting modern Italian culture and history. As part of this initiative, they have now launched "THE PIRELLI POST," a site where visitors can interactively explore the historical archives held by the Pirelli Foundation.

"THE PIRELLI POST" features a wealth of materials from 1948, the year the Pirelli Foundation was established, up to the present. It includes manuscripts, photographs, testimonies, and short films from great figures who excelled in Italian science, culture, and journalism. It also showcases advertisements from various eras and numerous articles published in Pirelli Magazine.

Furthermore, users can access content symbolizing specific periods, such as the economic boom of the 1960s, the terrorism and social tensions of the 1970s, and the broadcast television, consumer protection movements, and crisis of the Second Republic in the 1980s.

Lectures by Gianni Riotta, a journalist and writer appointed as the "Pirelli Visiting Professor of Italian Studies" at Princeton University for the 2014 academic year, will utilize materials from the site as teaching resources. Although available only in English and Italian, the images alone, which convey the essence of Italy's "eras," offer a rich and enjoyable experience.
