Exploring Various "Environments" Through Photography
Each year, KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival features international photographers exhibiting their work in venues that include Kyoto's unique temples and atmospheric traditional townhouses. This year, under the theme "Our Environments," the festival will be held across 15 venues.
The venues will showcase a diverse range of environments, from the familiar to the cosmic, including cityscapes from above, nature in metropolises, family scenes, and the surfaces of animals. Through photography, visitors are invited to contemplate the various environments that surround us, often unnoticed in daily life. A distinctive feature of this art event is its presentation in historically significant locations, such as Shimogamo Shrine and the Institut Français Kansai.
At Yusai Kodo-kan, the exhibition "Nature in Tokyo" will be presented, featuring 13 contemporary Japanese photographers selected by the French magazine "Le Monde," capturing the natural landscapes of Tokyo. Additionally, high-resolution images of Mars' surface, captured by NASA's survey satellites, will be displayed through an installation by artist Shiro Takatani. This exhibition, featuring incredibly beautiful landscapes formed by wind over three billion years, will have its Japan premiere, among many other noteworthy events.
Amidst Kyoto's lush spring scenery, the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival presents a diverse array of "landscapes." Having gained recognition, it has grown into a quintessential spring event for Kyoto.
