Born in Niigata Prefecture in 1985, Yusuke Yamatani worked in a photo studio after graduating from university. He then moved to Nagasaki, where he learned photography through interactions with the late photographer Shomei Tomatsu and other emerging artists, and began his career as a photographer.

Yamatani has immersed himself in various underground scenes, both domestically and internationally, from the squats of Milan to the punks of Southeast Asia. He lived, played, and photographed the everyday life within these communities. The works documenting his days spent with friends he met while wandering through Osaka, his latest destination in Japan, culminated in the self-published photobook 'Tsugi no yoru e.'

This exhibition, sharing the title with the photobook that garnered international acclaim and sold out immediately, features 51 prints from the book. To coincide with the exhibition, Yuka Tsuruno Gallery is also releasing a second edition of the photobook 'Tsugi no yoru e.' Furthermore, a reception party with Yamatani will be held on February 15 (Saturday) at 6:00 PM.

'Tsugi no yoru e' marks Yamatani's first major solo exhibition. Yamatani, who has photographed from the perspective of an outsider with a delicate eye, states: 'In this era where information, places, and relationships tend to lose their inherent weight and everything becomes homogenized, perhaps my work is to capture and record the lingering chaos and raw essence that still exist in the streets and underground.'
