Limited-Edition Gotemba Store Japanese Sweet "Shiki no Fuji" Specially Released
Toraya Tokyo Midtown store's adjacent gallery hosts exhibitions that convey the charm of various Japanese traditions, not just sweets, aiming to share the essence of Japanese culture. This exhibition focuses on Mt. Fuji, as Toraya's largest factory, the Gotemba Factory, is located at its foot.
Mt. Fuji has long been a subject in numerous works of literature and art. Toraya's Japanese sweets also feature it, including "Mine no Yuki" (Snow on the Peak), whose name appears in records from the 3rd year of Enkyō, "Takane Kan" (High Peak Jelly), released annually in December, and the Gotemba-exclusive "Shiki no Fuji" (Four Seasons of Fuji).
This exhibition will display illustrations of sweets themed around Mt. Fuji from Toraya's confectionary sample books. It will also introduce Toraya's connection to Gotemba, including the "Toraya Gotemba Store" located in Gotemba and the "Toraya Kobo" (Toraya Workshop), created with the desire to recreate the origins of Japanese sweets.
The design for flyers and posters was handled by Ichio Otsuka, an illustrator who also designed the banners for "Toraya Kobo."
To coincide with this, the Tokyo Midtown store will specially release "Shiki no Fuji," a seasonal yokan (sweet bean jelly) that is normally only available at the Gotemba store. "Shiki no Fuji" was created in 1988, inspired by Mt. Fuji's changing appearance with the seasons. "Winter" will be available until late February, and "Spring" from early March until March 17 (Mon). Each is priced at 3,623 yen.
Additionally, limited-edition merchandise will be sold, including papier-mâché figures and notebooks for each of the four "Shiki no Fuji" seasonal yokan varieties: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
