Eight Works Exhibited, Including New Pieces Created for This Exhibition

Mariko Mori has been selected as the first Japanese artist to hold a solo exhibition at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo. Her work gained widespread recognition with the interactive installation "WAVE UFO" presented at the 2005 Venice Biennale, and she has since garnered support from museums and collectors worldwide.

This exhibition features eight works centered on the theme of "Infinite Renewal of Energy." Seven of these are new pieces created specifically for this show, with three produced through the support of Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo. Mori draws inspiration from the physics theory that 96% of the universe is composed of unseen energy, aiming to visualize this invisible energy through her art.

Upon entering the venue, visitors are first greeted by "Infinite Energy," a sculpture comprising three spirals that extend from the floor to the high ceiling. Its light symbolizes energy, seemingly absorbed into the mirrors on the ceiling, creating the illusion that the spirals stretch infinitely towards the sky. Furthermore, as one approaches the artwork, the light reacts to the viewer's energy, causing its color to change.

The exhibition also includes the "Renew" series of sculptures, evoking the Möbius strip to symbolize the endless cycle of life and death, a perpetual loop. Additionally, "Butterfly," a model of the stage set for the opera "Madama Butterfly" performed at the Teatro La Fenice as a special project for the 2013 Venice Biennale, is presented. It alludes to the fate of Madame Butterfly's soul, reborn after choosing to end her life in despair over unfulfilled love.

"Infinite Renew" allows us to experience the repeated regeneration of unseen energy. It evokes the "infinite energy" that we fundamentally seek, presenting Mariko Mori's world of endless continuation.
