EVENT | Nine Days Exploring the Possibilities of Typography
Considering Type and Expression: "TYPOGRAPHIC PASSPORT 2013" Held
The event "TYPOGRAPHIC PASSPORT 2013," which reexamines the expressive power of type and its relationship with design, will be held from Monday, August 12th to Tuesday, August 20th at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books and DAIKANYAMA T-SITE.

This Year: A Collaboration with Daikanyama Tsutaya Books
"GRAPHIC PASSPORT" is a creative event launched in 2009 by the creative culture magazine "+81," inviting top creators from various fields worldwide to present a diverse program of conferences, exhibitions, and workshops. In addition to its annual autumn event in Tokyo, it has been held at the Smithsonian Institution in the US, the Centre Pompidou in France, and last year in Brazil and India. It is growing as a global event originating from Japan.
In its fifth year, the event collaborates with Daikanyama Tsutaya Books under the theme "THINK, TOUCH, TALK" as "TYPOGRAPHIC PASSPORT 2013." In an era where engagement with printed text is said to be declining, this event refocuses on "type" itself, exploring its expressive potential and relationship with design through the works of various creators.
The content is diverse, featuring exhibitions of graphic posters and videos related to typography, works by creators from around the world, and participatory workshops and talks on typography. There will also be screenings of typography films and an exhibition and sale of exclusive typography merchandise and books.
Furthermore, an opening party will be held on Thursday, August 15th, to commemorate the first visit to Japan by Dutch artist Job Wouters. He will also perform a live painting. His colorful and decorative typography, created by an artist who, despite being of the digital generation, concluded that "manual work is the most free and logical method for me," is a must-see.
