An Exhibition Focusing on the Design Process of Christ & Gantenbein
The Act of Design
Christ & Gantenbein, responsible for significant recent projects in Switzerland such as the Swiss National Museum (2016) and the Kunstmuseum Basel (2016), is a leading young architectural unit in the country.
They have a keen interest in the autonomous qualities of form, executing groundbreaking projects that harmoniously blend the classical and the contemporary in captivating ways.
The exhibition 'The Last Act of Design – The Expressive Methods of Swiss Architecture' focuses on the design process within their architectural work, exploring the multifaceted meanings of architecture. It will be held at Hillside Terrace in Shibuya, Tokyo, from March 20 (Wed) to March 31 (Sun), 2019.
Related events, including lectures by Christ & Gantenbein and dialogues with Japanese architects, are also scheduled during the exhibition period.
After completion, architecture is expressed through various media such as photographs, drawings, and models. Viewers perceive the architecture and imagine the space through these representations. This exhibition delves into the diverse facets of architecture by Christ & Gantenbein, presented through various media including photographs interpreted by Italian photographer Stefano Graziani, drawings with modified palettes and lines, and 3D-printed models.
This exhibition is the inaugural event ofthe Japan-Switzerland Architectural Culture Association, established in 2018 as a platform for architectural cultural exchange between Japan and Switzerland. Fittingly for its opening, it showcases a comprehensive collection of Christ & Gantenbein's explorations.
