Expressing a Love for Craftsmanship

Karin Carlander presents a variety of textile works using 100% European linen, spun from flax naturally cultivated in specific fields across Europe. Her textiles embody a deep understanding and knowledge of materials and techniques honed over a long career, along with a love for craftsmanship that is mindful of the environment.

She was greatly influenced by the traditional weaving craftsmanship she witnessed in Japan during her teenage years, which combined utility and beauty. This experience, she says, has led to her own philosophy of activity: "Artistic value should be added to objects used in daily life."

This exhibition marks the first-ever endeavor in Japan to showcase Karin Carlander's work through both installation art and products. It is a rare opportunity to experience her sincere approach to craftsmanship.
