Photographs Full of Humanity, Directly Conveying Emotion to the Viewer
Nobuyoshi Araki has continuously presented a body of work using instant film. This exhibition, titled "Yin Mu" by him and inspired by the company's name, showcases photographs made with film from Impossible, a company dedicated to the art of instant film, carrying on an analog method that is being replaced by digital technology. Araki is positioned here as a successor to this legacy.
Instant film, invented nearly 70 years ago, has been cherished by many photographers for its free-spirited playfulness. Araki is no exception, and this solo exhibition features works that seem to resonate with Impossible's distinctive prints. Furthermore, the framed pieces, encased in original iron, reflect the human heart—containing both vitality and stillness, and whispering both angelic and demonic secrets—like a mirror.
Araki, who shoots every day, lives a life that is a constant dialogue with photography. We hope you will savor his photographs, which are full of humanity and directly convey emotion to the viewer, embodying a phenomenon of the era with his effortless leaps in expression.
