Teshima, in Kagawa Prefecture, has been drawing attention for its rich nature, food, and art since the "Setouchi International Art Festival" held in 2010. A new museum by Tadanori Yokoo, renovated from a private home located in the Ioura district facing the port, the island's gateway, is set to open in the summer of 2013.

An Entire Space Evokes Philosophy of Life and Death Simultaneously
On Teshima, popular for the "Teshima Art Museum" by architect Ryue Nishizawa and artist Rei Naito, which opened in October 2010 and harmonizes architecture, artwork, and environment, a new museum by artist Tadanori Yokoo and architect Yuko Nagayama is set to open.
The museum will feature approximately 10 flat works, including Yokoo's large-scale pieces measuring about 2.3 x 5.4 meters and new works created specifically for this museum. Additionally, installations will be displayed in the stone garden, pond, and the newly added cylindrical tower, with the artwork space symbolically expanding across the entire site.
Nagayama's architecture not only enhances Yokoo's works but also creates a permeable boundary between the world of the art and the everyday life of Teshima. Using colored glass to control light and color, the design transforms the way Teshima's light, wind, and colors are perceived as they pass through the space, creating a collage-like spatial experience.
The opening is scheduled for July 2013, coinciding with the "Setouchi International Art Festival 2013." During the festival's spring period, the evolving landscape of the museum's construction will be revealed, sharing the process of its creation with the local community and visitors.
