The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow houses a treasure trove of French paintings. Its collection of modern art, particularly works gathered from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, is recognized globally for its exceptional quality.

The 2018 exhibition, 'The Pushkin State Museum ExhibitionTraveling French Landscapes,' presents 65 French landscape paintings from the 17th to 20th centuries. Organized by era and location, the exhibition allows visitors to trace the evolution of French landscape painting, from mythological narratives and classical yearnings to intimate natural scenes, the bustle of Paris, and even imaginary worlds.

These landscape paintings, set against diverse backdrops, evoke the very scent of the land, the sparkle of the sun, the rustling of trees in the wind, and the murmur of city life.

A highlight is Claude Monet's 'Luncheon on the Grass' (1866), making its first appearance in Japan. This work, created on the eve of Impressionism's birth, overflows with the vitality of a young Monet, harmoniously blending contemporary figures with a fresh natural landscape. The exhibition also features works by Poussin, Boucher, Corot, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, and Rousseau. We invite you to embark on a 'journey' through these landscapes, rich with light and color as seen through the artists' eyes.
