New Works Exhibited, Collaborating Ryuichi Sakamoto with Two Artists
Music and visual art have evolved in close relation to each other. In the early 20th century, artists like Wassily Kandinsky aimed for a total art form where works evoked various senses, and Paul Klee attempted to visualize music with symbolic precision. Today, artists who possess a sensibility that can be called 'new synesthesia'—treating video, images, and sound equally on a single computer—are emerging, and diverse expressions are being explored.
At the venue, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who serves as general advisor, will present new installation works created in collaboration with two artists. 'silence spins,' inspired by a Japanese tea room, with Seigen Ono, who handles world-class sound design, and 'collapsed,' a piece using two pianos and lasers, co-created with Shiro Takatani. Two such works will be exhibited.

In addition, new works by internationally active contemporary artists, such as Celeste Boursier-Mougenot's large pool with floating porcelain and Florian Hecker's three-dimensional sound installations, as well as works not previously shown in Japan, will be exhibited. Furthermore, the exhibition offers a glimpse into how artists and musicians have explored the relationship between music and visual arts, not only from a contemporary perspective but also from a historical one, featuring paintings by Kandinsky and Klee, and graphic scores by John Cage and Toru Takemitsu.
We encourage you to visit and experience the essential meaning of 'seeing' and 'hearing' in our current era through these diverse works.
