A Precious Ten-Day Exhibition

The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting "Mika Ninagawa: Beautiful Days," a solo exhibition where photographer Mika Ninagawa captures her days confronting the death of her father, Yukio.

Sceneries visible only through the sensitivity one possesses when facing a truly cherished person's death, or one's own. While constantly harboring anxiety and sorrow, one perceives "life" in the sudden blue of the sky, the sprouting leaves, the fragrance of the wind. The exhibition showcases works shot with such delicate sensibility by Ninagawa.

This exhibition comprises approximately 60 works, focusing on the days Ninagawa spent confronting her beloved father's limited lifespan. As Ninagawa describes them, "photographs taken with the eyes of the dying," each piece layers the beautiful world with her father's departing gaze and the daughter's inherited perspective.

Just as the "Stop" sign on the road in the photograph suggests a continuing journey beyond it, the works express how life, though seemingly halted, is passed down to a daughter, and then to her children.

"Mika Ninagawa: Beautiful Days" marks a departure from Ninagawa's previous works, to the extent that she herself says, "I don't know how I was able to take these photos." We encourage you to witness firsthand the landscapes born from the intersection of "life and death."
