544 Selected Works from Public Submissions Exhibited Together
The "Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition," now in its 63rd year, is the largest open call exhibition of its kind in Japan. It is held annually by the Japan Crafts Association, a public interest incorporated foundation, with the aim of preserving Japan's excellent traditional crafts and fostering successors. The exhibition is divided into seven departments: ceramics, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, bamboo and wood crafts, dolls, and various crafts, each showcasing works imbued with Japanese aesthetics.
A highlight of this exhibition is the display of works selected from public submissions alongside the latest creations by Living National Treasures (holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties). This year, 544 selected works, chosen through strict examination and judging from 1,551 submissions, will be exhibited together in the galleries of the Main and New Buildings.
