"BODY/PLAY/POLITICS" is an endeavor to reconsider our world, where people of diverse backgrounds—in terms of skin color, ethnicity, religion, gender, and lifestyle—coexist, through the lens of art.

The works presented in this exhibition reveal an attempt to discover new meanings by re-examining history, society, and the world through the "body." Six contemporary artists are participating, each presenting works that construct unique worlds through their distinct perspectives and methods of expression.
INCA SHONIBARE MBE
Born in London, he grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, from the age of three and studied art at the Byam Shaw School of Art and Goldsmiths in London. He creates paintings, sculptures, photographs, and videos that explore issues of race, social class, and colonialism.
YEE I-LANN
Born in Malaysia, she creates works that question the power and role of culture and historical memory in contemporary society through photography, video, and installations. For this exhibition, she presents a video installation based on the pontianak, a female ghost well-known in Southeast Asian folklore.
APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL
Born in Bangkok, the artist grew up in Khon Kaen (Northeastern Thailand) and has depicted the region's politically complex environment through poetic and symbolic films and video works. This exhibition marks the first showing in Japan of his 2016 video installation, "Cemetery of Kings (Fan)."
UUDAM TRAN NGUYEN
Born in Kon Tum, he was educated in Vietnam and the United States. He presents movement-based works, including video and sculptural pieces centered on performance, and interactive projects that remotely control drawing machines via the internet.
ISHIKAWA Ryuichi
Born in Okinawa Prefecture. In the ten years since he first picked up a camera, he has captured the landscapes and people of Okinawa, his living environment, with breathtaking intensity. He has received significant acclaim, including double awards for the Kimura Ihei Photography Award and the Japan Society for the Arts Newcomer's Award in 2015.
TAMURA Yuichiro
Born in Toyama Prefecture. Using diverse methods such as video, photography, installation, and performance, he unearths the memories and histories of specific places, transforming them into new narratives that transcend time and space, questioning their contemporary significance.

Here, playwright and director Junnosuke Tada, who has covered Yokohama's post-war history, will engage in a genre-transcending collaboration with Tamura Yuichiro, who will present a world premiere work at "Yokohama Dance Collection 2017."
