A Collaboration with Design Office nendo

The exhibition "SLICE OF TIME" is a spatial installation created through a collaboration between Panerai and the globally active design office, nendo.

This installation is an event where visitors can experience "time" as its theme.

First, a clock resembling a transparent "hollow shell," condensing Panerai's characteristics such as its numeral indices using a single stroke and its square case, was designed. This was then stretched to a length of 15 meters through extrusion molding.

By carefully slicing this elongated "hollow shell clock" and crafting watches by hand, the finished products can be taken home by visitors. At this time, the visitor's "age" is converted into "mm" and cut out, naturally creating watches of various proportions.

Circular atelier spaces are prepared for each process, such as polishing, sandblasting, and assembly. These spaces interlock and work together to gradually finish the watches. One watch is produced every five minutes. The elongated "hollow shell" gradually shortens over four days, and the installation concludes the moment it is completely gone.

Regarding this exhibition, nendo commented, "By converting 'time' into 'length,' similar to 'selling time by the yard,' it becomes possible to experience time, and furthermore, to 'take home one's own time.'"

"SLICE OF TIME" visualizes the invisible "time." It will be an opportunity to re-recognize the nature of time.
