Focus on the "Talk Series" featuring a diverse lineup of guests

The "KISHIN by KISHIN: THE PEOPLE" exhibition, which has garnered significant acclaim since its opening, is the first stop on its national tour at the Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto. Kishin Shinoyama began his career as a photographer in the late 1950s and has consistently captured the pulse of the times, remaining at the forefront of his field.


He has photographed and presented a wide range of subjects, including idols, actors, athletes, cities and architecture, nudes and nature, and traditional Japanese culture. Among these, his portraits of individuals who have become icons of their eras are particularly numerous.



This exhibition is divided into five sections: "GOD: Those Who Have Passed," "STAR: Celebrities Known to All," "SPECTACLE: A World of Dreams Transporting Us to Another Dimension," "BODY: The Naked Form," and "ACCIDENTS: Portraits of Those Affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011." It brings together portraits of people captured by Shinoyama over more than 50 years, reflecting his role as a "mirror of the times."


Furthermore, the "Talk Series," hosted by Shinoyama himself and featuring a diverse array of guests, particularly those who have been his subjects, promises a wide-ranging discussion covering the circumstances and behind-the-scenes stories of the shoots from both the sitter's and photographer's perspectives, as well as their respective activities and daily lives.
