“I Want to Highlight the Existence of Instant Film”

Riko Takahashi, the artist behind the collaboration product "TAKAHASHI HIROKO YUKATA 2012 for LIGHT UP NIPPON," which will contribute to the funding of the memorial and reconstruction fireworks display "LIGHT UP NIPPON 2012" held on August 11th.

"ON PURPOSE," one of her diverse projects, focuses on the background of creation, re-examining our relationship with what is produced, and seeking opportunities to overturn conventional ideas. This exhibition marks the third installment.

This time, she is inspired by the background of instant film for the "Impossible" project, which aims to reproduce instant film. This experimental exhibition intentionally reveals phenomena that occur unintentionally on the film, allowing visitors to experience moments where perspectives shift, previously unseen elements emerge, and the very meaning of their existence is transformed.

Takahashi states emphatically, "What intrigued me about this film was its history leading up to its creation, its current state of continuous evolution through trial and error, and the people involved and their traces. I didn't feel like picking up a Polaroid camera and Impossible instant film to shoot something. Rather than capturing beautiful things and exhibiting lovely photographs, I was driven by an urge to highlight the existence of this film itself."
